TIRANA, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Tuesday that his government welcomed the new European Commission strategy on six Western Balkans countries, voicing the hope for a soon opening of the country's EU accession talks.
"Opening of negotiations for Albania's European Union accession is closer than ever," Rama said following the publication of new EU strategy.
The European Commission affirmed its readiness to open negotiations with Albania on its EU accession in its new strategy published on Tuesday in Strasbourg.
"The Commission is ready to prepare the recommendation for opening the accession negotiations on the basis of fulfilled conditions," read the EC strategy released Tuesday by High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini and EU Enlargement Commission Johannes Hahn.
Mogherini said in her remarks during the presentation that Albania and Montenegro had fully implemented the EU foreign policies.
In response, the Albanian PM said after negotiations are launched, everything would depend on the momentum of Albania's running.
