NEW YORK, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Zeta Beta Tau (ZBT) fraternity at Cornell University has been sanctioned for a sex contest asking new members to engage in sexual intercourse with women.

The investigation conducted by the university's Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life found the fraternity violating the campus code of conduct and other policies.

According to the office, the fraternity organized a contest called "pig roast" during 2017, in which new members could accumulate "points" by sleeping with women.

"As a result, Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity was placed on Probationary Recognition for a period of two years," according to Cornell's hazing violation reports.

The fraternity was also asked to fulfill other requirements, including conducting chapter reviews, participating in educational programs and so on.

The ZBT released a statement on Saturday in response, promising to look inward to "ensure this type of behavior never occurs by anyone connected with ZBT, or the campus community as a whole, on our watch."

"We are committed to demonstrating through our actions that this inexcusable behavior will not be tolerated, and as such, we will take the necessary steps to ensure we retain the ideals and values of our brotherhood, specifically Social Responsibility and Integrity," said the ZBT.X It is reported that other ZBT chapters at American universities have been sanctioned for misconduct.

The ZBT chapter at Miami University has been suspended until May 2018 for violations of the Miami University Code of Student Conduct related to hazing.

The university's student-published newspaper claimed that "current members forced new members to drink alcohol, provide servitude and perform early morning workouts."

In 2015, the chapter at University of Florida was put on interim suspension for abusing disabled military veterans.
