HANOI, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- All four Vietnamese airlines canceled or delayed 2,665 flights in January, or 11.1 percent of the total scheduled flights, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam on Thursday.
National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines canceled or delayed 1,024 flights, or 9.6 percent of its total scheduled flights. The respective figures were 1,180 flights and 12.7 percent for Vietjet Air, 440 flights and 14.8 percent for Jetstar Pacific, and 21 flights and 1.8 percent for Vasco.
Up to 63.2 percent of the total delayed or canceled flights was due to the late arrival of planes from previous flights, said the administration.
The rate of canceled or delayed flights was fairly low compared with the international standard, especially when the four carriers increased numbers of flights to meet the much higher travel demand in the New Year holiday and before the Lunar New Year festival, local experts stated.
Vietnam's aviation industry served 46.4 million passengers, and 317,800 tons of cargoes in 2017, posting respective year-on-year rises of 14.1 percent and 7.1 percent, according to the country's General Statistics Office.
