BENI, Democratic Republic of Congo, March 28 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 people were killed in an attack by rebel group Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) on Tuesday night in the city of Beni, North Kivu province in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
According to the spokesman of the army's operations in the area, Captain Mak Azukayi, all the victims are civilians killed by the assailants that the army pushed back a few hours after the attack. Several other wounded are also registered among the civilians.
Local sources in Beni told Xinhua that the UN force in the area has deployed troops to secure the attacked neighborhood, while the army continues with its operation to repel the assailants who retreated into the forest.
After several months of calm, the ADF, a rebel group in Uganda and the DRC, remains active in eastern DRC despite several military operations launched by the regular forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC).
