COLOMBO, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Four new ministers were sworn in before Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena on Thursday, in a temporary cabinet re-shuffle following the resignation of six ministers a day earlier.
A majority of those sworn in are from the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) which is headed by President Sirisena.
Six SLFP cabinet ministers vacated their portfolios from Thursday midnight stating they could not continue work in the unity government.
The SLFP is a main coalition partner in the nation's unity government along with the ruling United National Party (UNP), headed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Those who were sworn in on Thursday were Faizer Mustafa, the new sports minister, Sarath Amunugama, the new minister of skills development and technology, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, the new disaster management minister and UNP MP, Malik Samarawickrama as social empowerment and labor minister.
The president's media division said a full cabinet re-shuffle would take place after the local Sinhala and Tamil New Year later this month.
