MOSCOW, April 21 (Xinhua) -- At least one person was killed and 12 others injured during a storm in Russia's capital of Moscow on Saturday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said.

"According to the updated data, the number of people injured during the hurricane has increased to 12. Doctors did not manage to save the girl who was in extremely critical condition," Sobyanin said on Twitter.

Moscow was hit by a thunderstorm accompanied by strong winds and heavy rain on Saturday afternoon.

Hundreds of trees have fallen as a result of the storm, and city services have begun to clean up the aftermath, according to Sobyanin.

Dozens of flights have reportedly been delayed due to the weather condition.

The storm is expected to intensify and reach its peak in the early hours of Sunday, local media reported.
