LUANDA, May 8 (Xinhua) -- 549 people died in road accidents in Angola during the first quarter of the current year, 169 less than the same period in 2017, said Conceicao Gomes, the national director for Roads and Traffic, on Tuesday.
According to the official, 2,654 others were injured in the same period.
Gomes who was speaking at the end of the first ordinary session of the Executive Committee of the National Council of Roads and Traffic Planning, said the fatalities occurred in the sequence of 2,452 road accidents.
Over-speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotic substances, pedestrian crossing, and poor road conditions, as well as the lack of illumination of some public roads, were at the basis of the accidents recorded in the period of reference.
