LJUBLJANA, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia's central bank has issued commemorative two-euro coins to mark the first World Bee Day on May 20 at Slovenia's initiative.
One million coins have been minted, including 2,000 high-gloss finish coins that will be available packed in plastic capsules, Slovenian Press Agency STA reported on Monday, citing a statement by Banka Slovenije.
The coins will be available to the public as of Monday at select offices of some major banks in Ljubljana, said STA.
In December last year, Slovenia proposed to the UN General Assembly that May 20 be designated as World Bee Day. The date marks the birth of the 18th-century Slovenian beekeeping pioneer Anton Jansa, who is known internationally for introducing modern beekeeping technology.
