LOS ANGELES, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Gunfire erupted Sunday in downtown San Diego, California, as thousands of people participated in an annual marathon, leaving a cop wounded and a woman in custody.
The incident was reported around 11:30 a.m., which disrupted the Rock 'n' Roll marathon, and runners were rerouted.
The San Diego Police Department said a female suspect was taken into custody who was firing rounds and holding a gun to her mouth on the eighth floor of the Civic Center parking garage.
The police department confirmed that there was no threat near a marathon route downtown after gunfire was reported in the area.
"The scene is secure. The Rock and Roll Marathon has resumed," tweeted San Diego Police Department.
A police officer on the scene was reportedly shot himself in foot by accident. He was taken to hospital.
About 26,000 took to the streets of San Diego for the 2018 Rock 'n' Roll marathon and half-marathon events on Sunday.
