MEXICO CITY, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Mexican rescue teams are still searching for the seven miners missing since Monday, after a mine accident in the northern state of Chihuahua, local authorities said Tuesday.
The Chihuahua civil protection office said in a statement that the seven workers had not been found since a dam holding back mineral waste broke.
Two injured men were found and rescued by the emergency teams and are being treated in hospital in the state capital of Chihuahua.
The civil protection office added that another employee who was reported as missing on Monday was found safe and sound.
The Rio Tinto mine in the village of Cieneguita, in the municipality of Urique, is an open-cast gold and silver mine.
"Since the accident was reported, the state coordinator, Luis Cuauhtemoc Guerra Chacon, has been mobilized on the ground to lead the efforts of various authorities," the office announced.
