JAKARTA, June 8 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian Bowling Association is confident of securing two gold medals during the Asian Games to be held in the country later this year.
Team manager Rony Mandagi explained that the target had been set after monitoring and gauging the performance of the bowlers in recent friendlies and training sessions, including those taking place in the United States.
"During the US tryouts, a lot of progress was made in preparation for the Asian Games," he said, adding that the average scores for the women's team was 220 points, with 230 points for the men.
"We will try hard to achieve our target of winning two gold medals," Mandagi asserted.
The six male and six female bowlers to compete in the Games will be decided at the end of the month, Mandagi said. Currently, both men's and women's teams feature seven bowlers in training.
Uupcoming friendly matches include participation in the Macao Open from June 15 to 23 and the Hong Kong Open from June 25 to 30, according to the association.
During the previous Asian Games in Incheon in 2014, Indonesia managed two bronze medals in the men's doubles and the women's team of five.
The bowling competition at the 2018 Games will take place at the Jakabaring Sport Compound in Palembang, provincial capital of South Sumatra.
The Games is to be centered around the country's capital of Jakarta and takes place from August 18 to September 2.?
