SARAJEVO, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rainfall has hit Bosnia and Herzegovina's (BiH) capital Sarajevo on Friday afternoon, flooding streets and causing traffic collapse in major part of the city.
The unexpected heavy rainfall, followed by strong wind, caused streets in the city center to be flooded in some 30 minutes and many cars trapped in water.
In Sarajevo's Mojmilo area, there was a case of passenger being rescued from a car that was trapped in the water.
BiH Automoto Club (BIHAMK)warned drivers that due to abundant rainfall, water-filled impact holes are poorly visible and therefore pose a great danger to drivers.
"BIHAMK appeals to drivers to adapt their speed to current driving conditions and to respect traffic regulations," the official website said.
In Ilijas area, located in Canton Sarajevo, there was a traffic accident on the highway, BIHAMK told local media.
BiH Federal Hydrometeorological Institute forecast intense rainfall and thunderstorms in central and eastern BiH in the following days.
