YANGON, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities are planning to launch a public health awareness activity against the danger of using prohibited food, drugs and cosmetics, the official Global New Light of Myanmar reported Wednesday.
The Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) or the municipal authorities will list out the dos and don'ts with regard to preparing food items sold on the streets, Minister of Health and Sports Myint Htwe was quoted as saying.
The YCDC will also raise public awareness over diseases that can occur through the consumption of unhygienic food by putting up posters and stickers at market places, restaurants and public areas and by distributing flyers to the public.
The minister has urged local manufacturers to avoid producing cosmetics or food products that contain suspicious chemical dyes and for vendors to stop selling prohibited cosmetics and food items.
Meanwhile, Myanmar authorities occasionally destroyed fake medicines in Yangon and Mandalay seized by the police authorities, aimed at supporting the health of the public and ensuring to have good-quality medicines available in the market.
