TOKYO, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Monday as investors were encouraged by Wall Street's advance late last week and sought out issues deemed oversold following recent declines amid ongoing concerns about global trade tensions.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 264.04 points, or 1.21 percent, from Friday to close the day at 22,052.18.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 20.25 points, or 1.20 percent, higher to finish at 1,711.79.
Consumer finance, pharmaceutical and metal product-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
