NEW DELHI, July 28 (Xinhua) -- At least six members of a family were killed on Saturday in a house collapse in northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, officials said.
The house collapsed in Saharanpur district, about 711 km northwest of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh.
"In a tragic incident here early morning a house collapsed, killing six people of a family," an official posted in Saharanpur district office said. "The inmates were buried alive under the debris of the house."
Following the incident police teams and disaster response force personnel rushed to the spot to retrieve bodies from underneath the debris.
According to officials the house collapsed due to heavy rains that hit parts of Uttar Pradesh on Friday.
Meanwhile death toll in rain related incidents in the state has risen over 30.
A government spokesperson said deaths were reported from Agra, Mainpuri, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Kasganj, Meerut, Bareilly and some other places.
According to Meteorological department officials, thundershowers are likely to continue in many places across the state in the next two days.
Construction experts blame the lax administration and corruption for flouting building rules that often results in using poor quality materials, inadequate supervision and poor safety standards in India.
