UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese envoy to the United Nations Ma Zhaoxu on Wednesday called on the international community to join efforts in cutting off the supply chain of funds and weapons to terrorists in Syria.
At a UN Security Council meeting on Syria, the Chinese permanent representative to the UN said that the political process in Syria has maintained positive momentum, and the Memorandum on Stabilization of the Situation in the Idlib De-escalation Area, which was signed by Turkey and Russia, has been implemented smoothly.
He also noted that the political process in Syria is still facing challenges. Terrorism is threatening the security and stability of Syria, and hindering reconstruction and the return of refugees.
Given the situation, the Chinese envoy urged the international community to coordinate with each other to cut off the supply chain of funds and weapons to terrorists and prevent them from coming back, in order to consolidate counter-terrorism achievements.
Political negotiation is the only reasonable solution to the Syrian issue, Ma said, adding that it is time to steadily establish a constitutional committee which is representative and acceptable to all parties in Syria.
Ma also called for the relaunch of Geneva peace talks as soon as possible to facilitate full dialogue and consultation among all parties in Syria.
