LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were killed and four others injured as a roadside bombing struck a vehicle in Washir district of the southern Helmand province on Wednesday, spokesman for provincial government Omar Zawak said.
"The gruesome incident occurred in Washir district today afternoon killing two commuters on the spot and injuring four others," Zawak told Xinhua.
Without providing more details, the official said that investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, an official on condition of anonymity said that a mine planted by militants struck a civilian car in Sangilan area of Washir district at around 2:15 p.m. local time killing two persons and injuring four others.
The poppy-growing Helmand province has been the scene of Taliban-led insurgency over the past more than one decade.
