TIRANA, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- A consortium of three Turkish companies has submitted an offer for the construction of the country's second national airport, Albania's ministry of transports said in a press release Thursday.
Sources from the ministry said that the construction works on the airport in the southern city of Vlorawere were scheduled to kick off in June.
The construction was also announced Wednesday by Prime Minister Edi Rama through a post on social networks.
According to Rama, this project is expected to have an effect not only on employment but also on the economy of the country. He said that this airport would increase competition and lower prices.
A special group with representatives from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Finance will be established to review the technical aspects of the construction and pursue further steps in accordance with the law.
Currently, Albania has only one functional airport, located in the country's capital city.
