TORONTO, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Canada's main stock market was down Wednesday as financial shares fell.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's benchmark Standard & Poor's/TSX Composite Index fell 73.34 points, or 0.45 percent, to end the day at 16,284.21. Eight of the index's 10 main groups closed lower.
The Canadian dollar hurtled higher 0.55 cents at 81.1 cents U.S.
The largest decliner on the index was Valeant Pharmaceuticals,which fell 11.2 percent to 24.61 Canadian dollars.
Aurora Cannabis rose 4.5 percent to 14.12 Canadian dollars.
Rogers Communications lost 1.7 percent, to 60.93 Canadian dollars while BCE staggered 52 cents to 57.22 Canadian dollars.
CN Rail edged down 1.9 percent to 98.19 Canadian dollars after reporting a lower-than-expected adjusted profit for the fourth quarter.
Air Canada was grounded 1.6 percent to 22.80 Canadian dollars.
Agnico Eagle Mines vaulted 4.9 percent to 60.58 Canadian dollars while First Quantum Minerals added 2.3 percent to 19.02 Canadian dollars. Enditem
