AMMAN, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's armed forces thwarted an attempt to smuggle weapons, narcotics and terrorists into the Kingdom, the state-run Petra news agency reported on Saturday.
Following investigations and intelligence efforts by the concerned authorities, the army thwarted the attempt.
The army indicated that a group of terrorists and drug dealers planned for the smuggling attempt through using an old oil pipeline between Syria and Jordan. The pipeline also connects Iraqi borders with Jordan.
The army said a group of terrorists and drug dealers lived in a house near the border areas and drilled several tunnels to be used for smuggling along the oil pipeline to smuggle the weapons and conduct terrorist attacks.
The army indicated that the engineering units destroyed all the tunnels and the oil pipeline that the terrorists wanted to use during the smuggling attempt to conduct their terrorist schemes.
The source said the army will stand to all attempts and plots seeking to target the Kingdom.
This is not the first time the army thwarts attempts by terrorist to infiltrate into Jordan as it foiled several such attempts over the past years.
