TEHRAN, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Iran is ready to work with the new UN special envoy to Yemen to resolve the crisis there, Iranian UN ambassador Gholamali Khoshroo was quoted as saying Thursday.
Iran is ready for cooperation with Martin Griffiths, the new UN special envoy to Yemen, to end the crisis in Yemen through political approaches, Khoshroo said in a meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the Tasnim news agency reported.
Any uncalculated and unilateral measure at the UN Security Council regarding Yemen would only lead to deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Yemen, Khoshroo said.
The UN will harness the best means to reach a political compromise in the war-torn Yemen, Guterres was quoted as saying.
Griffiths will replace Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed who announced on Monday that he will step down from the post at the end of next month.
