TOKYO, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday tracking sharp declines on Wall Street overnight, with ex-dividend selling also weighing on the market.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 413.15 points, or 1.94 percent, from Tuesday to 20,904.17.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 33.05 points, or 1.92 percent, at 1,684.08.
Mining, oil and coal product, and bank-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
