BEIJING,?April?6?(Xinhuanet)?--?China will fight "at any cost" and take "comprehensive countermeasures" if the United States continues its unilateral, protectionist practices, a spokesperson with the Ministry of Commerce said Friday.
The announcement came after the U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday asked the U.S. Trade Representative to consider 100 billion U.S. dollars in additional tariffs on products imported from China.
China has made its position on Sino-U.S. trade very clear that it does not want a trade war, but it is not afraid of one.
The U.S. made a wrong judgement for assuming that it could gain benefits out of protectionism and therefore made a wrong decision in slapping trade sanctions against China.
While hurting others, the move will cost the U.S. dearly.
It will eventually feel the pain as its actions are typical unilateralist and protectionist practice, completely unfounded and against World Trade Organization (WTO) rules.
China will not be afraid or back down if a trade war is unavoidable. The country has never surrendered to external pressure, and it will not surrender this time either.
