BOAO, Hainan, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Globalization accords with the common interests of all countries, President Xi Jinping said Tuesday when meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte at the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) annual conference.

"We should actively adapt ourselves to globalization rather than halt our steps because of temporary difficulties or problems," Xi said, adding that globalization is an irreversible trend.

"We should stick to an open development concept and make economic globalization more open, inclusive, and balanced so that its benefits are shared by all," the president said.

China and the Netherlands should uphold an open world economy, continue to safeguard the multilateral trade regime and promote liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment, he said.

Xi said he hopes the Netherlands will continue to play its constructive role in the European Union and contribute more to the healthy and stable development of China-Europe relations.

Noting there is a huge potential for the development of bilateral relations, Xi said the two sides should implement an open and win-win cooperation concept, actively advance cooperation in traditional fields, expand new cooperation fields, and enrich people-to-people exchanges for mutually-beneficial and win-win results of a higher level.

Rutte spoke highly of Xi's speech delivered at the opening ceremony of the BFA annual conference Tuesday morning.

The prime minister said the Dutch side expects to deepen cooperation with China, jointly forge the Belt and Road Initiative partnership to achieve mutually beneficial and win-win results.

The Dutch side attaches importance to China's significant role in international issues, supports free trade, and is committed to promoting Europe-China ties, Rutte said.
