KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, April 18 (Xinhua) -- A senior police official was killed and three policemen were wounded in a bomb attack in Kandahar city, capital of Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar, on Wednesday, a provincial police spokesman said.
"Mohammad Janan was martyred and three policemen were wounded after a bomb planted in his vehicle running along a road in the city was detonated," spokesman Zia Durrani told Xinhua.
Janan served as commander of a battalion of Afghan Border Police (ABP) in the province.
No passerby was hurt in the incident which occurred at around 09:20 a.m. local time in Police District 4 of the city, Durrani added.
The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital and a probe was launched by provincial police department into the incident.
No group has claimed responsibility for the latest targeted attack.
Security situation has been improving in Kandahar, the former stronghold of Taliban, over the last months, as security forces have conducted search and cordon operations across the province. But the militants attack government interests in the province from time to time.
