BEIJING, April 26 (Xinhua) -- People-to-people exchanges will promote friendship, mutual understanding and mutual trust between China and India, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Thursday.
Hua Chunying made the remarks in response to a report that India is considering appointing Bollywood star Aamir Khan as its brand ambassador to showcase its services sectors in China due to his massive popularity.
Hua said many Chinese people, including herself, had watched the Indian film "Dangal" starred by Aamir Khan, which she said was rather motivating.
"Currently, under the guidance of both Chinese and Indian leaders, bilateral ties maintain sound momentum of development and people-to-people exchanges enjoy continuous progress," she said.
"Doing yoga and watching Bollywood movies have become a new trend among young Chinese, and these exchanges will undoubtedly bring the two peoples closer, and promote their friendship, mutual understanding and mutual trust," Hua said.
Chinese President Xi Jinping will hold an informal meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Friday to Saturday in Wuhan, exchanging in-depth views on the development of the China-India relations.
Hua said China is ready to work with India to take this opportunity to promote better development of bilateral ties.
