BUENOS AIRES, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said here on Sunday that China and Argentina should enhance cooperation in various fields to promote bilateral relations.
Both nations should seek to integrate the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative with Argentina's development strategy to inject new stimulus into the their comprehensive strategic partnership.
Wang made the remarks when meeting with Argentine Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie during an official visit to the Latin American country.
Wang said under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Argentina ties have maintained a good momentum of comprehensive development, with steady growth in bilateral trade, orderly advances in major cooperation projects, close people-to-people and cultural exchanges as well as good coordination in international and multilateral mechanisms.
Argentina has been facing some economic and financial difficulties recently due to external factors, Wang said, adding that as Argentina's comprehensive strategic partner, China firmly supports the South American country to take effective measures to maintain economic and financial stability and would offer assistance to the best of its capability.
China is the most reliable and long-term partner of Argentina's development and confident about its economic prospect, he said.
China fully supports Argentina's effort to host a successful summit of the Group of 20 (G20) and will work with Argentina to ensure that the meeting will achieve positive outcomes, promote multilateralism and build an open world economy, said Wang.
Faurie said Argentina highly values bilateral relations, treasures and appreciates China's trust and support, which is crucial for Argentina to overcome its current economic and financial difficulties.
As an important country on the world stage, China is playing a significant role in international politics, economy and strategy, said Faurie, adding everything is possible when it comes to cooperation with China.
Argentina thinks the Belt and Road Initiative is of great significance to the world economy and is keen to integrate the initiative with its own development strategy, said Faurie.
Argentina expects to increase agricultural exports to China and strengthen cooperation in areas of energy, mining and tourism, added Faurie.
He said the two countries have consensus with regard to the firm safeguarding of multilateralism.
Argentina, which holds the G20 presidency for 2018, is the final leg of Wang's four-nation tour, which has taken him to France, Spain and Portugal.
Wang will attend the G20 ministerial meeting and meet with Argentine President Mauricio Macri.
