JERUSALEM, May 25 (Xinhua) -- About 87,000 Palestinians Friday passed through different crossings from Judea and Samaria to Jerusalem as part of the Ramadan prayers, according to a statement issued by the Israeli army.
Additionally, approximately 8,000 Palestinians visited the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron in honor of the Ramadan, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said.
IDF troops are prepared and reinforced, along with the ISA, Civil Administration, Border Police and Israeli Police forces, in order to enable the Ramadan prayers alongside protecting the communities and routes and maintaining order and security, noted the IDF in the statement.
In addition, the Israeli army also said in the statement that Friday evening an explosive device was hurled at IDF troops in the northern Gaza Strip and no injuries were reported.
According to the Israeli army, on Friday evening about 1,600 Palestinians assembled in two locations along the security fence on the Gaza Strip border and they hurled rocks and burned tires. Attempts to sabotage security infrastructure were identified.
IDF troops were responding with riot dispersal means and fire, and operating according to standard operating procedures, said the Israeli army.
