KAMPALA, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Kenya Simbas have won the first leg of the regional Elgon Rugby Cup against archrivals Uganda Rugby Cranes.
In a match played at the Legends Rugby Club in the heart of Kampala on Saturday Kenya Simbas won 34-16.
The visitors took a 24-9 lead at half time with Jacob Ojee, Leo Seje and Olivier Mangeni picking the tries, while Darwin Mukidza was perfect with the conversions.
Ojee scored the first try for Kenya Simbas after only three minutes. Darwin Mukidza was perfect with the conversion for Kenya to lead 7-0. Ivan Mungomu reduced Kenya's lead with a well taken penalty conversion inside eight minutes.
Kenya Simbas added tries by Leo Seje and lock Oliver Mangeni. Mukidza made no mistake with the conversions and a penalty.
In the second half, substitute Philip Wokorach for Uganda Rugby Cranes brought new life to the team. But the better organized Kenya Simbas' team added tries by Elkeans Musonye and Biko Adema. Wokorach converted Simon Olet's try for Uganda.
The Elgon Cup return leg will be on July 7, 2018 in Nairobi. Enditem
