TORONTO, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Canada's main stock market fell Friday as gold and energy stocks were down.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's benchmark Standard & Poor's/TSX Composite Index fell 17.96 points, or 0.11 percent to close the day at 16,043.54 points.
The Canadian dollar edged down 0.09 point to 0.77.14 U.S. dollar..
The energy group fell 0.68 points, or 0.34 percent, while the financials sector declined 0.88 points.
MEG Energy Corp dropped 4.4 percent and Ivanhoe Mines Ltd dipped 4.3 percent while TORC Oil & Gas Ltd fell 4.1 percent.
NexGen Energy Ltd jumped 7.4 percent and Stars Group Inc rose 5.6 percent while Tahoe Resources Inc climbed five percent.
A total of 126 issues advanced and 114 declined. There were 10 new highs and no new lows, with total volume of 180.3 million shares.
