TEHRAN, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Iran Foreign Ministry said Sunday that it welcomes the agreement between Afghan government and the Taliban militants on a ceasefire on Eid al-Fitr celebrations that mark the end of Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
The Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said that Iran views the truce announcement as a positive step to achieve further agreements and restore permanent stability and security to Afghanistan.
Qasemi also expressed Iran's preparedness to help promote peace in the neighbouring country.
On Saturday, the Taliban outfit announced a three-day ceasefire with the Afghan government during Eid al-Fitr religious festival holidays.
However, Taliban said in its statement that its forces would attack the foreign soldiers stationed in the war-torn country.
