HONG KONG, June 13 (Xinhua) -- The Legislative Council (LegCo) of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Wednesday finished the second reading of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link (XRL) co-location bill.
Chan Fan, secretary for transport and housing of the HKSAR government, said the co-location arrangement is convenient and beneficial to Hong Kong people, which is also in line with the "one country, two systems" principle and the basic law.
He believes Hong Kong people will understand and recognize the bill.
To implement the co-location bill in the West Kowloon station of HKSAR, the bill needs to be locally legislated by LegCo.
According to the law of HKSAR, three readings are required for getting through the local legislation. The first reading of the bill was finished on Jan. 31.
The LegCo is expected to finish the three readings and accomplish the local legislation of the co-location bill by July.
