HANOI, June 14 (Xinhua) -- China defeated Malaysia 3-0 at the Asian Women's U19 Volleyball Championship in Vietnam's northern Bac Ninh province on Thursday, securing a berth to the quarterfinals.
Defending champion China defeated Malaysia 25-7, 25-16, and 25-13.
In the other games, Chinese Taipei whitewashed Macao, China 3-0 (25-11, 25-12 and 25-12), South Korea beat Hong Kong, China 3-0 (25-15, 25-11 and 25-10), Vietnam downed New Zealand 3-0 (25-22, 25-21 and 25-23), Iran beat India 3-0 (25-17, 25-19 and 25-12), Thailand won over Sri Lanka 3-0 (25-14, 25-4 and 25-9), and Kazakhstan saw off Australia 3-1 (25-21, 25-18, 20-25 and 25-16).
China will face South Korea in the quarterfinals.
In the 2016 edition, China was the winner. Japan was the runner-up and Thailand took the third place.
The tournament is a biennial competition in Asia and Oceania contested by the U19 women's teams of the members of the Asian Volleyball Confederation. It has been held since 1980.
