RIO DE JANEIRO, June 22 (Xinhua) -- The Brazilian office of UN Women, a global champion for gender equality, on Friday condemned the harassment of a Russian woman by some Brazilian tourists during the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Videos shared on social networks show several Brazilian guys convincing a Russian woman to repeat some words in Portuguese. Not knowing what she was saying, the woman repeated expressions with strong sexual and racist connotations.
The videos have caused an uproar and raised much criticism in Brazil and abroad. The men have been identified, but so far no official measures have been taken against them.
"The deliberate intention of some Brazilian fans to sexually harass women during the World Cup" is unacceptable, said the UN Women Brazil.
"To Russian women and women of all nationalities, UN Women Brazil expresses its solidarity," it said.?
