TEHRAN, June 24 (Xinhua) -- The collapse of the Iranian nuclear agreement will have very dangerous consequences on the security of the Middle East as well as Europe, a former Iranian diplomat said according to Tehran Times on Sunday.

Europe should find ways to preserve the 2015 nuclear deal, "otherwise, there would be no reason for Iran to remain in the agreement," Kamal Kharrazi, former foreign minister of Iran, said.

Iran attaches great importance to Europe's support for the European companies that seek to invest in Iran, Kharrazi, the incumbent head of Iran's Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, was quoted as saying.

Kharrazi, Iran's foreign minister from 1997 to 2005, also urged European countries to show unity in the face of U.S. pressure and save the nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

On Saturday, Abbas Araqchi, Iranian deputy foreign minister, said that European countries will soon offer a package to protect Iran's interests from the 2015 international nuclear deal.

Iran signed the landmark deal with the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany in 2015 to halt its nuclear weapons program in exchange for sanctions relief.

U.S. President Donald Trump decided on May 8 to quit the Iranian nuclear deal and vowed to reimpose sanctions, including oil embargo, on Tehran.

Iran is currently in talks with France, Britain and Germany to revive the "blocking statute," a 1996 regulation that prohibits EU companies and courts from complying with foreign sanctions laws.
