TOKYO, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Tuesday as despite picking up shares on dips following a plunge a day earlier, investors became risk averse as some major Asian bourses lost ground in later trade.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 26.39 points, or 0.12 percent, from Monday to close the at 21,785.54.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 2.49 points, or 0.15 percent, lower at 1,692.80.
Nonferrous metal, marine transportation and precision instrument-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
