JAKARTA, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese women's singles player Chen Yufei, seeded fifth, defeated Indian player Saina Nehwal in two games 21-18, 21-15 to reach the quarterfinals at the badminton Indonesia Open on Thursday.
Saina Nehwal, the 2009, 2010 and 2012 champion here, lost the Indonesia Open championship in 2011 to China's Wang Yihan in the final.
"She is an extraordinary player and quite experienced. I had to calm down myself in today's match. She defeated me in the Indonesia Masters tournament. I consoled myself throughout the match, just being myself. Finally I won it," Chen said after the match.
Chen lost her last match-up with Nehwal in an international badminton tournament held in Jakarta in January.
In the quarterfinal, she will play against Japan's world No. 2 player Akane Yamaguchi, who outlasted her compatriot Nozomi Okuhara to advance.
In another quarterfinal clash, Chinese player He Bingjiao, seeded eighth, will take on world No. 3 Pusarla V. Sindhu from India.
The tournament is contested by the 32 best badminton players in the world, offering 1.25 million U.S. dollars of total prize money, the largest of all BWF-sanctioned tournaments so far.
