MADRID, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Spanish housing sales in May rose by 4.7 percent year on year, Spain's Statistical Office (INE) reported on Wednesday.
A total of 47,177 purchases were registered in the fifth month of the year, with sales of second-hand houses rising by 3.7 percent in May year-on-year to a total of 38,874 and sales of new houses increasing by 9.2 percent to a total of 8,303.
Sales of non-subsidized houses accounted for 90.5 percent of the total, their sales rose by 4.4 percent year on year in May to 42,708, while sales of subsidized houses represented 9.5 percent of the total and increased by 7.1 percent to 4,469.
Spain's housing sales have been rising for two consecutive months.
The INE also reported that on a month-on-month basis, housing sales rose by 12.3 percent. Enditem
