PARIS, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Ligue 1 side Bordeaux overcame Latvian club Ventspils 2-1 at home on Thursday and secured their place in the 2018/19 UEFA Europa League third qualifying round 3-1 on aggregate.
Winning the first leg 1-0 one week ago, Bordeaux, who sat sixth in last season's French league, built a 1-0 lead through Francois Kamano's goal in the ninth minute.
They doubled their advantage shortly after the restart, as Jules Kounde hit the target in the 48th minute.
The 19-year-old striker Adeleke Akinyemi pulled one back for Ventspils in the 66th minute, but that was not enough to threaten Bordeaux's chance of advancing into the next round, where they will face Ukrainian club Mariupol.
Also on Thursday, Leipzig, Atalanta and Sevilla, prominent names in the tournament, eased past their respective opponents, while Premier League club Burnley were forced into extra time by Aberdeen before marching on 4-2 on aggregate.
