KABUL, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- A police officer and an assailant were killed, and another police officer wounded in a suicide bomb blast near an Afghan election commission office on Monday, police said.
The incident occurred in Pul-i-Charkhi neighborhood at midday when a police officer identified a terrorist and intercepted him for approaching a demonstration site outside the Afghan Independent Election Commission (IEC), then the attacker detonated his explosive.
Earlier on Monday, supporters of disqualified election candidates gathered in the area to protest against disqualification of 35 parliamentary election candidates.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
Over the past few months, Afghanistan, especially Kabul, has witnessed waves of terror attacks by the Islamic State (IS) outfit and Taliban insurgents opposing the country's long-delayed parliamentary elections scheduled for October.
