ALGIERS, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- A third person has died in northern Algeria due to a cholera outbreak, local media reported Tuesday.
The victim, a 43-year-old woman, succumbed to this infectious disease at Boufarik Hospital in Blida province, 40 km southwest of the capital city of Algiers, the Ennahar TV reported.
The woman, who was already suffering from Down Syndrome and kidney failure, was rushed to hospital last week from the Ain Defla province, 160 km southwest of Algiers.
Health authorities had already confirmed two deaths at the Boufarik Hospital since the cholera outbreak.
Statistics by the Health Ministry showed that 56 cholera cases have been confirmed out of 161 hospitalized cases since Aug. 7.
On Sunday, Health Minister Mokhtar Hasbellaoui reassured that this disease would be curbed within three days, but medical experts contended that eradicating the infectious disease will take much longer.
