JAKARTA, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Flash floods striking West Sumatra province on Thursday night killed one person and severely wounded three others, an official of disaster agency said on Friday.
Heavy downpours triggered floods that suddenly hit several villages in Solok district at 8:45 p.m. local time, spokesman of national disaster management agency Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said.
The floods affected over 3,000 folks in the districts and swept away tons of paddy stockpiles, he told Xinhua in a text message.
Soldiers, police personnel and volunteers are undertaking relief works and assessment of downside risks of the natural disaster, Sutopo added.
Indonesia is frequently hit by floods and landslides during heavy downpours.
