BANGKOK, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Thai authorities have foiled an attempt to smuggle 2.7 million speed pills and killed two suspected drug smugglers near northern Thailand's border district, reports said on Tuesday.
Police seized a huge haul of 2.7 million methamphetamine pills, 60 kilograms of crystal meth and six packs of heroin on Monday night after a gunfight with the drug gang in Chiang Rai province.
Authorities received tip-offs on the drug smuggling before they found about 20 men sneaking off from a mountain. The shooting lasted about 20 minutes.
A body of a man aged 25 to 30 with loaded pistol was found after the clash. Authorities found another body on Tuesday morning. Both could not be identified yet.
Authorities are searching for other suspects who were injured.
