UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appointed Armida Alisjahbana of Indonesia as chief of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Guterres' press office said Thursday.
Alisjahbana will succeed Shamshad Akhtar of Pakistan.
Alisjahbana is currently a professor of economics at Padjadjaran University in Bandung, Indonesia. From 2009 to 2014, she was minister of national development planning of Indonesia.
