CAIRO, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) said on Sunday that it would soon introduce the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in domestic football games after refereeing controversy in recent Premier League games.
"The EFA has contacted FIFA to begin practical steps to implement the Video Assistant Referee technology in Egyptian League games," the association said in a statement.
Recent refereeing errors have enraged several clubs, including Ahly, the most decorated club in Egypt, and big-spending club Pyramids.
The EFA attempted to implement VAR last year, but hit a brick wall because of the lack of adequate technology.
Many countries have adopted the VAR technology after its success in the summer World Cup in Russia. VAR's current prominent users are the Spanish La Liga and German Bundesliga.
