WASHINGTON, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- One person was shot dead on the scene and several were injured on Wednesday afternoon at a courthouse in eastern U.S. state of Pennsylvania, the authorities said.
A law enforcement official was among the victims following the shooting at the Fayette County Magistrate Court in Masontown, the Pennsylvania State Police's Troop B, which handles the county, tweeted.
"At this time we have multiple victims and injuries one being a law enforcement official," the tweet wrote.
A spokesperson for the Fayette County Emergency Management told ABC News that a person was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unclear whether the gunman was among those shot.
Pennsylvania State Police tweeted that Troop B is investigating the incident.
More than a dozen police officers surrounded the court building following the shooting, aerial footage shot by ABC Pittsburgh affiliate WTAE showed. The entrance of the building was cordoned off with yellow police tape.
