SYDNEY, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Adelaide United and Bentleigh Greens both confirmed their spot in Australia's FFA Cup competition on Wednesday evening, setting up a fascinating contest early next month.
Despite a tremendous run over the tournament that saw APIA Leichhardt Tigers knock out A-League champions Melbourne United, the Sydneysiders were outgunned against the traveling Adelaide side that won the contest 2-0.
The goals came in the 71st and 80th minute with a brilliant strike from wideman Craig Goodwin and a perfectly placed header from new midfield recruit Mirko Boland.
Meanwhile, in Melbourne minnows Bentleigh Green scraped past crosstown rivals Heidelberg United 1-0 after an 86th minute stunner that saw left back Jason Alexander cut back on the edge of the box to open his right foot and blast of thunderous strike past United's keeper.
The pair will now face each other for a place in the final on October 5 in Melbourne.
In the other semifinal, Sydney F.C. are set to take on fierce rivals the Western Sydney Wanderers in what promises to be a mouth-watering derby for Aussie football fans.
This fixture is scheduled for the following night on October 6.
