SHENZHEN, China, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Spaniard Fernando Verdasco stopped Briton Andy Murray at ATP Shenzhen Open, advancing to the semifinals with a 6-4, 6-4 win here on Friday.
Murray kept a 13-2 head-to-head record over Verdasco, but Verdasco defeated the former World No. 1 in their last clash in US Open.
The 34-year-old managed to break Murray in the third game of first set before the British broke back to make it 2-2. Holding two break points at 4-4, Verdasco gave Murray no chance to win the first set 6-4.
Verdasco continued to impress in the second set as he broke Murray in the fourth game and got another 6-4.
Japanese qualifier Yoshihito Nishioka also entered the semifinals by beating Cameron Norrie from Britain 7-6(2), 6-2. Enditem
