TRIPOLI, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The United States and Britain have signed an agreement with DCA Mine Action for a demining project in the Libyan city of Sirte, some 450 km east of the capital Tripoli, U.S. Embassy to Libya said in a statement on Friday.
"The United States and Britain signed an agreement with DCA Mine Action to continue a critical demining project in Sirte," the statement said.
"The United States is providing 1.5 million U.S. dollars to this 16-month project which aims to help the people of Sirte in their efforts to revive their city after Daesh occupation," the statement confirmed.
Sirte has witnessed a violent war that lasted for seven months between forces allied with the UN-backed government and Islamic State (IS) affiliates.
In December 2015, the government forces managed to defeat and expel the terrorists, who later fled the southern valleys and mountainous areas.
