NAIROBI, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's medal hopeful hockey team left here on Wednesday for Buenos Aires where the third summer Youth Olympic Games will run from Oct. 6 to 18.
Head coach Michael Malungu promised impressive results in the games, saying, "I believe the team will withstand the pressure from Europe and Americas to score top goals and win Kenya a medal in hockey."
Hockey will be the third sport alongside athletics and swimming that Kenya will be entering in the Youth Olympics.
Anthony Kariuki, the head of Kenya's delegation, believes the country will improve on their last show in Nanjing, China in 2014 when Kenya won two gold medals.
The Kenyan men's hockey team is in Pool B with defending champion Australia and silver medalists Canada, Austria, Bangladesh and India.
Pool A witnesses host Argentina, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland, Vanuatu and Zambia.
Four years ago in Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games in China, the host won the women's event and Australia triumphed in the men's event.
National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) President Paul Tergat said, "The Youth Olympics team from Kenya was exclusively selected from disciplines that participated in the African Youth Games held in Algiers, Algeria in July. The boys' hockey team leaves on Wednesday for their debut in Youth Olympic Games."
